Parks Canada and the Dictionary of Canadian Biography both record John Molson, an emigrant from Lincolnshire, taking sole ownership of the Montreal brewing enterprise in 1785 and building it from 1786. These are institutional historical records rather than primary corporate documents, which is why the evidence is graded B rather than A.
