How to read an answer

Answer Status

YES — Tally has a defensible answer. PARTIALLY — part of the question is answered and something important is still open. NOT YET — there is not enough evidence to establish an answer, and we say so rather than inventing one.

Verification

VERIFIED — reviewed against sufficient evidence. CONFLICTED — credible sources disagree and we have not resolved it. UNVERIFIED — a candidate answer awaiting evidence review. STALE — previously verified, now due a recheck.

Evidence

Every answer lists what it is based on and what each source actually proves. Grades run A (primary, official, direct) to D (weak or discovery). They are assigned by review — a trustworthy newspaper is still secondary evidence.

Research gaps

An open question is a finding, not a failure. These are the gaps the pilot answers record as unresolved.

• molson-brewery: The intermediate holding entities between the Montreal brewery and Molson Coors Canada Inc. have not been separately established from a registry record.
• molson-brewery: Whether any partner held a founding interest alongside John Molson before 1785 has not been established from a primary record.
• molson-brewery: No primary record has been located establishing a first commercial sale date, which would distinguish first brewing from first trade.
• labatt-brewing-company: The immediate legal parent of Labatt Brewing Company Limited within the AB InBev group has not been established from the group's subsidiary schedule.
• labatt-brewing-company: The Dictionary of Canadian Biography places the brewery on the south branch of the Thames at the foot of Talbot Street; other accounts name Simcoe Street. Both readings are preserved and neither is asserted.
• labatt-brewing-company: Western University Libraries holds the Labatt Historic Collection. No document from it has been reviewed; the partnership agreement and the 1854 bill of sale would settle the remaining detail.
• labatt-brewing-company: Balkwill's establishment of the brewery is given as 1827-28; the exact year is not resolved. The month of Labatt's 1847 investment is not established either.
• big-rock-brewery: VN Capital's current percentage after the January 2025 private placement and debt settlement has not been established; the release named participating shareholders but disclosed no percentages. A current management information circular would settle it.
• big-rock-brewery: Current control-block position not established from a 2025 or 2026 circular.
• big-rock-brewery: The legal incorporation date has not been read from a corporate registry and may differ from the 1985 operating date.
• firehall-brewery: Sid Ruhland has no canonical company record, so the ownership chain cannot be walked in data.
• firehall-brewery: The chain above Sid Ruhland is not established in canonical company records.
• alley-kat-brewing-company: The split between the two owners, and whether Neil Herbst retained any stake, is not established.
• alley-kat-brewing-company: The chain above Neil Herbst is not established in canonical company records.
• moo-brew: Which registered entity holds the brewery, and its relationship to Mona and Moorilla, is not evidenced.
• guinness-st-james-gate: The chain above Diageo is not established in canonical company records.
• beavertown: Which Heineken entity holds Beavertown — the group company or a UK subsidiary — is not established by any source reviewed. An earlier draft asserted 'Heineken UK'; that was inference, not evidence, and has been withdrawn.
• beavertown: The chain above Heineken N.V. is not established in canonical company records.
• brouwerij-artois-stella-artois: The chain above Anheuser-Busch InBev is not established in canonical company records.
• bell-s-brewery: The Michigan LARA merger or termination filing for Bell's Brewery, Inc. has not been reviewed. Kirin's disclosure is reported as December 2023 and a Michigan industrial-facility certificate transferred in November 2023; neither is reconciled as a canonical Source, so the merger is dated at YEAR precision.
• bell-s-brewery: Whether the October 2025 reporting change was accompanied by a transfer of New Belgium's shareholding from Lion to Kirin Holdings is not established. Kirin's announcement describes a reporting relationship only.
• bath-ales: The consideration was undisclosed and no filing has been reviewed.
• emersons-brewery: The archive holds no Lion company record. Kirin exists and is the ultimate parent, not the buyer. Lion Pty Limited is staged in phase2-entities.json.
• emersons-brewery: Reporting names 'Lion'. Whether the New Zealand purchase was contracted by Lion Pty Limited or a New Zealand subsidiary is not established.
• brewdog: The current status of BrewDog plc in administration, and which historical subsidiaries remain outside the Tilray perimeter, is not established.
• brewdog: Which entity operates the Ellon brewery day to day after the transfer is not separately evidenced.
• carlsberg-sverige-ab: Whether a Swedish or Nordic intermediate holding company sits between Carlsberg Sverige AB and Carlsberg Breweries A/S is not established.
• carlsberg-sverige-ab: The Foundation's holding is cited as at 31 December 2021 and has not been refreshed from a current annual report.
• beamish-and-crawford: The chain above Heineken N.V. is not established in canonical company records.
• ribstone-creek-brewery-edgerton: 4th Meridian Brewing Company has no canonical company record, so the ownership chain cannot be walked in data.
• columbia-brewery-kokanee: Trade reporting refers to the Creston bottling line closing. That is a site and lifecycle question, not an ownership one, and is not asserted here.
• columbia-brewery-kokanee: The archive holds both columbia-brewery-kokanee (companyId labatt) and columbia-brewery (parentLabel 'Labatt (AB InBev)'). Flagged, not merged — rule 10.
• okanagan-spring-brewery: Partly answered: Sapporo Breweries Ltd. acquired Sleeman in 2006 through its wholly owned subsidiary Silver 2501 Canada Inc., and sits between Sleeman and Sapporo Holdings. Neither intermediate is claimed here, because neither is needed to answer who owns the brewery.
• lion-breweries: The New Zealand legal entity between the brewery and Lion Pty Limited is not named in the evidence reviewed.
• paulaner-brauerei: Whether Heineken holds governance rights disproportionate to its 30 per cent is not established.
• new-belgium-brewing: The legal shareholder of New Belgium after the October 2025 reporting restructuring is not established.
• little-creatures-brewery: The current direct legal owner of the brewery business is not established. Lion-Beer, Spirits & Wine Pty Ltd is proven as trading company and liquor licensee, which is operator evidence; no share register, transfer instrument or ASIC extract proving ownership is publicly available.
