A directory can tell you a brewery exists. It cannot tell you who owns it, who founded it, what stood on the site before it, or which brewery it became. These are those links — 1,549 of them, across 715 breweries, and every single one carries a source.

Owner and operator are held apart, because they are frequently not the same company and collapsing them is how a local-looking brewery hides its parent.

What came before

A renamed company and a later brewery in the same building are two different claims, and this archive keeps them apart. A rename is a corporate fact; a site successor is a fact about premises.

Direction established

Where the arrow is the finding

For most links the direction is obvious — a brewery is owned by a company, not the other way round. Between two breweries it is not obvious at all, and getting it backwards inverts real history. These are the ones where somebody established which way it runs, and the evidence that settled it.

Union Hall operated at 121 W Main St, Bozeman by 2019. Shred Monk was announced in 2021-22 for the building previously occupied by Union Hall and subsequently operated at 121 W Main.

National Register documentation: Cooney and Hanley bought the brewery in 1876 as Merchants Brewing Company and changed its name to Silver Spring Brewery in 1879. Hanley later transferred the Silver Spring name to a Providence brewery - that is a separate event and is NOT recorded here.

Brewery-history records place Consumers Brewing Company then Hollen Brewing Co. Inc. 1936-1938 at Jefferson Avenue. Recorded as site succession, not rename: no corporate documentation yet shows Hollen was legally a renamed Consumers entity.

Bucket Brewerypremises later taken bySmug Brewing Companyconfidence A

Bucket operated at 100 Carver Street 2013-2019; Smug subsequently occupied 100 Carver Street, with contemporary references describing Smug as being where Bucket had been. Site succession - no evidence of an asset or company transfer.
