Summary
Status: CLOSED. Address: Rosedale Valley Ravine near present-day Sherbourne Street and Bloor Street East, on Castle Frank Brook. Pass 101 canonicalizes Joseph Bloor's brewery as a distinct 1830–1843 identity. TRCA documents the brewery, dam/pond, site and 1843 sale to John Rose. The brewery identity then became Castle Frank Brewery; Bloor Brewery and Castle Frank Brewery are not collapsed into one timeless record. [Canada Pass 101]
A summary written during research. The sourced facts are in the sections below.
Ownership & corporate history
- Founded by Joseph Bloor1830
What the sources say
Resolves held claim HOC-0397 ("OWNED / FOUNDED"). Built 1830 in the Rosedale Valley by Joseph Bloor (also spelled Bloore, 1789-1862), innkeeper and later co-founder of Yorkville; Bloor Street is named for him.
- Sold to John Rose1843
What the sources say
Resolves held claim HOC-0397 ("OWNED / FOUNDED"). Bloor sold the brewery in 1843; Rose operated it as the Castle Frank Brewery until 1864, and the building was demolished by 1875. A second dated fact the same evidence establishes.
Ownership history is kept as dated events, so a change of owner never overwrites the one before it.
