Atypical Brewery & Barrelworks

Minot, USA · Est. 2018

From the record

What we have established

Established 2018 in the former Westland Oil Filling Station at 510 Central Avenue East, built 1929 and later listed on the National Register of Historic Places; renovation began December 2017. Minot City Council approved a retail beer licence for Atypical, LLC d/b/a Atypical Brewery & Barrelworks on 4 June 2018, and reporting dated 13 August 2018 describes the brewery preparing to open by month-end. OPENING MONTH IS 2018-08; THE EXACT DAY IS PARTIAL RESOLUTION. Founding group: Eric Johnson, Nick Holwegner, Brady Dixon and Dylan Davis. Later evidence describes Holwegner and Johnson as the visible co-owner and brewer principals plus two silent partners - current operational prominence is NOT proof of unchanged equal equity, and the founding four require dated treatment. Nick Holwegner had been the brewer at Souris River Brewing before partnering with Eric Johnson, a homebrewer, to open their own brewery: a direct first-generation to second-generation brewer lineage. Opening-era beer: London Fog, a cream ale with vanilla and Earl Grey tea. The brewery's stated intention to specialise in barrel-aged sours, and its claim at the time to be the state's first such brewery, is a BREWERY CLAIM and is not adopted as an archive superlative without a statewide comparison. Source: Minot City Council records, contemporary Minot reporting and Atypical first-party, per North Dakota Passes 23-24.
