The People

Behind the beer

Magloire Melançon
Master brewer / 1847 operating partner

Notarially sourced reconstruction identifies Melançon as a master brewer who formed a partnership with Placide-Octave Morin on 29 Mar 1847 to operate the brewery.

Placide-Octave Morin
Operating partner / owner-brewer

Partnered to operate the brewery in 1847, purchased it from Melançon in 1848, was enumerated as a brewer in 1851, and sold the brewery and equipment in 1867.

Édouard-Ulric Dupuis
Brewer / owner at St-Jacques; founder/owner Brasserie de Joliette

Pass 179 person-identity reconciliation: Joliette municipal history identifies Édouard-Ulric Dupuis (1834–1885) as founder of Brasserie de Joliette in 1879 and says he had nearly ten years' experience with a similar brewery he had founded in Saint-Jacques. This converges with the existing St-Jacques Ulric Dupuis lineage; no duplicate person is created.

Flavien Labossière
Brewer / 1870 company participant

Identified as a St-Jacques brewer and participant in the 7 Jul 1870 association formed to brew and sell beer under the Compagnie de la Brasserie de St-Jacques name.
