What we have established
Type: Joseph Anton Kern acquired the former fortification ground in 1842 and built the Schanzenberg brewery at Schönberggasse. Brewing began in 1843. The complex included malt kiln, brewhouse, fermenting and storage cellars; a fire destroyed the western wing in 1851. Kern gave up brewing and had himself removed from the commercial register on 11 August 1852. Status: CLOSED — Brewing ended 1852. Joseph anton kern The surviving complex became residential/property rather than brewery use. Do not treat later building owners as brewery owners after production ended.
