Brauerei zum Drahtschmidli

Zürich-Unterstrass, Switzerland

01

From the record

What we have established

Type: Wilhelm Reiser established the brewery at the former Drahtschmidli bath site in 1843. Ownership and leases changed repeatedly; Martin Haller brewed from 1855 until his death in 1882, and Gustav Steuble later acquired the brewery in 1887. Tunnel-blasting damage spoiled stored beer, brewing was subsequently abandoned, customers passed to Hürlimann, and the site came to the City of Zürich in 1906. Status: CLOSED — Historical brewery; Property transfer TO CITY 1906. REISER → Meiss / lessees → HALLER → STEUBLE City/Dynamo history confirms the brewery-to-municipal-site transition; exact final brew year remains held.
