Address: Islington Street / Islington Stream brewery complex. Frank Jones entered John Swindell's Portsmouth brewery in 1858 and soon took control. By 1882 the brewery produced about 150,000 barrels and was described as the country's largest ale producer; production later reached roughly 250,000 barrels. New Hampshire Prohibition halted brewing in 1917. Brewing/brand operations revived after repeal through Eldridge-related entities, and the Portsmouth brewery ultimately closed in 1950.
