Munich's oldest brewery, founded by Augustinian monks in 1328, and the only one of the city's big six still genuinely independent — held by a charitable foundation rather than a conglomerate, which is why it advertises almost nowhere and still fills the largest tent at Oktoberfest. Locals will tell you it is the best beer in Munich and then decline to explain further, on the grounds that this is obvious.
