Listing policy
Listings are free. Always.
Every genuine brewery and eligible brewing-industry business can be included in Tally's Beer Universe at no cost. We review submissions to confirm that the businesses are real and the information is supported by evidence. Listing, claiming a profile, and correcting facts are always free. Payment never determines inclusion, placement, or editorial findings.
Always free
- Being included in the brewery archive
- Being included in the industry supplier directory
- Submitting a new brewery, supplier, farm or agricultural business
- Claiming a listing, or saying you represent it
- Correcting inaccurate information
- Adding supported history, ownership, people, beers, products and awards
- The research and editorial updates behind a record
- Keeping a listing over time — no expiry, no renewal fee
- Keeping the record of a closed or historical brewery or company
No hidden fees, no subscription, no limit on how many listings, and no paid ranking or editorial priority. Nobody has to buy Tally's Verified, become a Founding Partner, advertise or commission a film to be listed or to stay listed.
Why free listings are checked
Free does not mean automatic. We check every listing to keep out:
- breweries and suppliers that never existed
- fraudulent or impersonated submissions
- duplicates presented as new businesses
- wrong or misleading business identities
- unsupported claims presented as established facts
- AI-invented businesses entered as real ones
A brewery is not fake because it closed, has no website, or left few records. Where the evidence for existence is thin, the submission waits in research rather than being published or thrown away.
For breweries
Your brewery. Your history. Your beer.
Find or add my brewery — free
Search for your listing. If it is missing, send it with one page that shows the brewery exists or existed.
Update my brewery history — free
Claim your listing or send documented changes. Corrections are open to anyone, not only owners: an accurate public record does not need a company's permission.
Tally's Verified — optional, paid
A separate service that investigates one named beer, field to glass, against a written standard. It is not a listing fee, a business identity check, an approval of the brewery or a certification of its ownership, and it guarantees no result. Published prices: $400 CAD to open a Record and $100 CAD a year to recheck it, with introductory terms on the page.
For the brewing industry
Connect with the brewing universe
Join the industry directory — free
Suppliers, maltsters, hop growers, labs, farms and other eligible organizations can find their listing, send a missing one, claim it, update the contact link, correct it and add documented history and business relationships. There is never a checkout for a listing.
Founding Partnerships — optional, paid
A separate sponsorship and media arrangement: one company per supply-chain category for Canada, a disclosed credit on the category and a commissioned film, $4,000 CAD for 5 years or $7,500 CAD for 10. A Founding Partner gets no better listing, no better grade and no say over any record, its own included.
How a free listing is reviewed
Eight steps, the same for everyone
- 01You send it, freeA new listing, a claim, a correction or a missing fact, by email. It lands in our review queue, not on the site.
- 02We look for duplicatesAgainst every brewery, organization and directory entry already held, by exact name. A possible duplicate is flagged for a person to read.
- 03It enters researchPENDING REVIEW until someone looks; NEEDS MORE EVIDENCE when it needs a source before anything can be decided.
- 04We check that it is realAn official website, a government or business registry, a brewing association, a reliable historical record or credible news. Closed, old or offline is not the same as fake.
- 05Supported facts are addedOnce the business is established, the facts that have evidence go on the record. EXISTENCE CONFIRMED is an internal state, not a badge.
- 06The rest stays honestOwnership, founding dates or products that cannot be established stay marked UNKNOWN rather than guessed.
- 07Doubt is held, not publishedA submission that looks fake, impersonated or unsupported is HELD for investigation, or REJECTED with the reason.
- 08The decision is recordedWhat was decided, when, and on what evidence, in the record's change log.
A reviewed listing is not “Tally Verified”
The free review confirms that a business is real. It does not mean everything about that business has been verified, and a listing never carries a TALLY VERIFIED mark for passing it. Each fact on a record keeps its own grade and its own date. Films are separate too: Tally's Take and the Closed Ledger are editorial choices, free when we make them and owed to no one, and a film a company commissions about itself is paid work, labelled as commissioned. Neither comes with a listing.
Tally's Beer Universe charges for optional services, independent research, media production, products and partnerships — never for the right of a real brewery or industry business to exist in the historical record.
