Why this matters
California Pass 187. A City of Yreka historical marker states that 328 W. Miner Street housed Charles Peters' Yreka Brewery and Saloon, with the saloon in front and brewery in back; the building itself appears on a map from 1856 or earlier, but Pass 118 does not convert the building date into a brewery founding date. More importantly, the Pacific Coast Business Directory for 1876-78 (compiled 1875) lists 'Peters Charles, brewery' on Miner Street while separately listing William Jeaskel as proprietor of Pacific Brewery on Oregon Street. That contemporary same-city, same-directory separation proves Peters' operation was distinct from Pacific Brewery at that time. The 1880 national brewer survey later lists 'Yeters, Chas.' and 'Junker, Chas.' separately in Yreka with individual barrel totals; because 'Yeters' may be an OCR/transcription error but is not proven to be Peters, Pass 118 preserves the ambiguity rather than silently correcting it. Exact opening/closure dates and named beer products remain UNKNOWN.
