Why this matters
An Alabama corporation formed on 17 December 1888 for the business of a brewery, capitalised at $100,000 — serious money for a brewery on the Georgia line. Its 1889 advertisements place the plant firmly in Phenix City and sell pure lager beer made by German brewers with imported hops and malt, and city directories keep listing it there from 1891 to 1897. It did not close: the Encyclopedia of Alabama has the company crossing the river to Columbus, Georgia roughly twenty years after it started, so the 1908 date here is an Alabama-site endpoint rather than a proven end. Not to be confused with the Chattahoochee Brewing Company that opened in the same town in 2013, which has no connection to it whatsoever.
