Tally's Take

Why this matters

A Toronto brewery of 1878, from the era when the city had dozens and every neighbourhood drank its own. The building on Queen Street East outlived the beer — a common Toronto ending, where the brewery becomes a heritage façade and the brewing goes somewhere cheaper. Kept on the record because a city's brewing history is not only the parts that survived.

Toronto brewing from 1878 until the trade collapsed around Prohibition. The Dominion name was everywhere in Canadian commerce then and now sounds like a museum label.
