Why this matters
A woman running a brewery in 1870s Stockton, and the proof is in barrels. The 1880 national brewing survey lists her with 505 barrels sold in 1878 and 716 in 1879 — growing output, and more beer in 1879 than Boemer & Wirth's 612 further down the same page. Her surname appears as 'Neislrath' in one transcription of that survey and 'Neistrath' in another, and the archive preserves both rather than choosing the tidier one. Trade name, address, opening and closure are all unknown. She is the second woman brewery operator this archive has found in California, after Mary Blasauf at Nevada City — and like Mary Blasauf, she surfaced in a tax record rather than in any history.
