Empire Brewery
Visalia, California, USA
Tally's Take
Why this matters
California Pass 187. The contemporary 1880 national brewing survey lists two separate Visalia brewery entries: Mooney's Brewery, with 591 barrels sold in 1878 and 581 in 1879, and Empire Brewery, with 33 barrels sold in 1879. Because both are listed separately in the same city and reporting period, Empire Brewery is preserved as a distinct historical producer rather than an alias of Mooney's/Visalia Brewery. Pass 116 did not recover Empire Brewery's proprietor, exact site, opening/closure dates or named beer products, so those fields remain UNKNOWN.
