Tally's Take

Why this matters

Mauritius' first craft brewery, and it began as a bar. Oscar Olsen opened Lambic in Port Louis in 2009 to bring good beer to the island, and Flying Dodo followed in 2011 at Bagatelle, fifteen kilometres south of the capital. It brews around twenty beers a year and puts out something new every month, which on an island of this size means the brewery is effectively the country's entire experimental range. Named, inevitably, for a bird that could not fly and no longer exists — which is a joke about Mauritius that Mauritians get to make.
