   Licensed in January 1897 — Townsend and Hewitt

   Boundary Creek Times, 9 January 1897: "The Grand Forks Brewery received a license to manufacture and sell beer and porter last week, and the machinery has been set in motion"; Grand Forks Miner, 6 February 1897: "Messrs Townsend and Hewit, of the Grand Forks Brewery are getting ready to place beer on the market by the 15 inst. The first brewing will consist of about 600 gallons." (PRIMARY) A second project the same spring: "Mr. A. Schmidt and wife, of Colfax", who "was owner of the Colfax brewery, which was lately destroyed by fire", meant to build a brewery at Grand Forks (6 March 1897) — whether he did: UNKNOWN.

   'Drink Nothing But Grand Forks Beer'

   The Miner, 7 August 1897: "Keep Your Money at Home By Patronising Home Industry! Drink Nothing But Grand Forks Beer, Manufactured by the Grand Forks Brewery" — on sale at the Cosmos Hotel, the White House and the Alberta Hotel in Grand Forks, at Carson, Edward's Ferry, "and all the Hotels in Greenwood, Anaconda, Boundary Falls and Midway".
