Gerard Adriaan Heineken bought a failing Amsterdam brewery called De Hooiberg in 1864 and turned it into one of the largest beer companies on Earth. His grandson Freddy later took the wordmark and made it noticeably friendlier — one small tweak that nobody was ever told to look for, but everybody has now seen a thousand times without noticing.
