A summary written during research. The sourced facts are in the sections below.
Ownership & corporate history
- Owned by George W.C. OlandDate unknown
Partly settledCurrent evidence supports this, but the record is not fully resolved.
What the sources say
DCB gives 1909 purchase and 1914 reincorporation/rename; Oland official history gives a conflicting 1905 chronology. Conflict preserved.
Ownership history is kept as dated events, so a change of owner never overwrites the one before it.
Events
- DCB dates George W.C. Oland's purchase of the Agricola Street Highland Spring Brewing Company to 1909; Oland's official history gives 1905. Pass18 preserves both rather than forcing one.1909
- DCB says the Highland Spring Brewing Company was reincorporated and renamed Oland and Son Limited in 1914.1914

Timeline
- 1899Founded about 1899, Agricola Street
"the state-of-the-art Highland Spring brewery on Agricola Street in north-end Halifax. Founded a decade earlier" than its 1909 sale (Dictionary of Canadian Biography); Oland's history places it at Agricola and Russell streets and calls it "Hayward's Highland Springs Brewery". Its founders: UNKNOWN (the Hayward connection is the lead).
- 1909George W. C. Oland buys it — 1909, or 1905
"The final break came in 1909, when George went into business for himself, purchasing as a going concern the state-of-the-art Highland Spring brewery" (DCB); Oland Brewery's own history dates the purchase, by George and his son Sidney, to 1905. Both kept.
- 1914Oland and Son Limited
"In 1914 George reincorporated Highland Spring as Oland and Son Limited" (DCB; the company history has the renaming at the purchase). Destroyed in the Explosion of 6 December 1917 and rebuilt by Sidney Oland in 1922, it is the present Oland Brewery (oland-brewery, TB-8AY8S5QG).
