Imperial Brewery

Montréal, Quebec, Canada · Est. 1909

01

Tally's Take

Why this matters

Built in 1909 on rue Saint-Maurice — the same year National Breweries consolidated the city's trade — and then used by somebody else. Dawes moved its brewing into these installations in 1922 and continued there inside the National Breweries system. What the archive cannot establish is who the Imperial name belonged to first: the ownership and predecessor chain does not meet its evidence standard, and no separate entity was invented to fill the gap. A building with a well-documented second life and an undocumented first one.
