Joseph Mayhoffer (Crescent City brewer)
Crescent City, California, USA
Tally's Take
Why this matters
California Pass 187. The 1880 national brewing survey Beer, Its History and Its Economic Value as a National Beverage lists Joseph Mayhoffer at Crescent City among California brewers with 59 barrels sold in 1878 and 81 barrels in 1879. This directly proves local commercial beer production more than a decade before the separate 1891 Crescent City Brewery reference already canonical in the master. Specialist brewery indexing further preserves a Joseph Mayhoffer brewery phase in Crescent City from 1874 to 1888, followed by G. W. Mayhoffer from 1888 to 1890, but those exact dates and succession are retained as held secondary chronology pending primary confirmation. Pass 114 keeps Joseph Mayhoffer as a distinct proprietor-named production entity and does not merge him into the later Crescent City Brewery without transfer/site evidence.
