Kiewel began brewing in early 1925 with 30,000-barrel annual capacity; Brewing Corporation of Canada took it over in 1929, Shea's and Drewry's bought it in 1936, Labatt took it over in 1961, and the plant closed in August 1976 with production moved to Labatt's Notre Dame plant. Resolves held claim HOC-0392 ("FOUNDER / OWNER"). A Minnesota brewing family's second act: Kiewel (born Moorhead, 1875) sold the Crookston brewery buildings, shipped the machinery north, and built the $250,000 St. Boniface plant in 1924 — brewing from early 1925 at 30,000 barrels a year, $700,000 profit in year one, brother George managing. Later Kiewel Pelissier Breweries; the plant ran to 1976. 'The large Canadian Brewing Company acquired his breweries' per the Minnesota record — the acquisition's identity and date are a research lead.
