A Minnesota brewing family's second act: Kiewel (born Moorhead, 1875) sold the Crookston brewery buildings, shipped the machinery north, and built the $250,000 St. Boniface plant in 1924 — brewing from early 1925 at 30,000 barrels a year, $700,000 profit in year one, brother George managing. Later Kiewel Pelissier Breweries; the plant ran to 1976. 'The large Canadian Brewing Company acquired his breweries' per the Minnesota record — the acquisition's identity and date are a research lead.

The brick brewery at 690 St. Joseph Street, St. Boniface, was "constructed in late 1924 by the American construction firm of Hazelton & Walin at a cost of about $90,000, for Charles E. Kiewel (1875-1969) of Crookston, Minnesota" (MHS). The Kiewels' Minnesota family also supplied Prince Albert's Red Wing brewer, George Kiewel.
