    In 1999 the Trappist abbey at Berkel-Enschot agreed to hand daily brewing operations to the Swinkels family. The monks kept the abbey and the Trappist designation; the commercial brewing went to a family brewer — an arrangement that briefly cost La Trappe its Authentic Trappist Product status.
