From the record
Summary
Historical production brewery. Early Manitoba legislative history records an Act to incorporate the Manitoba Brewery Company in 1871. Alexander Begg's contemporary-era Ten Years in Winnipeg states that by 1872 the company had spent heavily on buildings and had commenced brewing at Silver Heights, but struggled because of the distance from Winnipeg. Exact closing year and shareholder identities remain UNKNOWN. CHECKED 2026-09-24: the Manitoba Historical Society's Silver Heights pages (McKay's, then Donald Smith's residence) make no mention of a brewery, and nothing connects John Christian Schultz to it; Begg's account remains the only source. Shareholders and end: UNKNOWN.
