Tally's Take
Why this matters
Incorporated in 1903 as the Milwaukee Brewing and Malting Company — a name chosen for what it promised rather than where it was — and renamed Manitoba Brewing and Malting a year later, with the Fort Rouge brewery finished in 1904. Manitoba Historical Society corporate records take it into winding-up proceedings in 1920, with liquidation concluding in May 1924. It brewed publicly as Blackwood's, which is the name a Winnipegger would have used, so the archive keeps the alias. Pelissier's later controlled the plant.
