Tally's Take
Why this matters
California Pass 187. Kelley House Museum research says C. D. F. Sass established Pine Grove Brewery in 1873, about five miles north of Mendocino, supplying beer to Mendocino, Fort Bragg and the local Pine Grove saloon/dance hall. Martin Brinzing later took over the brewery and Fritz Waschter continued brewing there until his death in 1908. The brewery was torn down in September 1909 after Mendocino and Caspar voted dry. The production endpoint is therefore recorded as 1908, while demolition is separately preserved as 1909.
