Pioneer Brewery (San Luis Obispo)

San Luis Obispo, California, USA

Tally's Take

Why this matters

California Pass 187. Primary San Luis Obispo Tribune advertising in September 1869 and March/December 1870 identifies Pioneer Brewery and says the undersigned had commenced the manufacture of lager beer in San Luis Obispo. Advertisements continue into the 1870s. Because the ads prove operation but do not cleanly expose the proprietor or exact opening day in retrieved text, founding and closure remain UNKNOWN rather than back-calculated from the first surviving ad.
