Pioneer Brewery (Vallejo)
Vallejo, California, USA
Tally's Take
Why this matters
California Pass 187. The 1878 Thompson & West Solano County atlas explicitly identifies 'Pioneer Brewery, Edward McGettigan, propr., Vallejo, Cal.' A contemporary West Coast gazetteer likewise lists Edward McGettigan as proprietor at Marin and Carolina. Federal brewer-return data records P. & J. Smith in Vallejo selling 250 barrels in 1878 and 1,097 in 1879, consistent with a documented later Pioneer Brewery proprietor phase. Exact founding, closure and owner-transfer chronology remain UNKNOWN.
