Tally's Take

Why this matters

California Pass 187. Primary Placer Times advertisements in 1881 identify Placer Brewery at Dutch Flat under William Michell, who stated he had purchased the celebrated brewery and made improvements. By 1890-91, Auburn Journal and Placer Argus sources identify Mallows & Trousdale as proprietors, again describing active brewing and lager beer. Exact founding year, pre-Michell ownership, transition chronology and closure remain UNKNOWN.
