Tally's Take

Why this matters

America's oldest operating brewery, founded in Pottsville, Pennsylvania in 1829 and still owned by the founding family six generations on. Its real achievement was surviving Prohibition, which it did by brewing near-beer and opening a dairy — the ice cream operation is still going. Every other American brewery of that vintage is a brand owned by somebody else or a plaque on a wall.
