Canada Malting Co.

Calgary, Alberta, Canada

01

The role

What they make

One of North America's oldest and largest maltsters, incorporated 1902 and headquartered in Calgary. Operates malthouses at Calgary, Montreal and Thunder Bay plus nine country elevators across the three Prairie provinces, producing roughly 400,000 tonnes of malt a year. Held through United Malt Group, which was demerged from GrainCorp on 1 April 2020 and acquired by Malteries Soufflet — the malting arm of the French cooperative group InVivo — on 15 November 2023, creating the world's largest maltster at 3.7 million tonnes across 41 facilities in 20 countries. Canada Malting's own website still describes it as "a GrainCorp company," which has not been true since 2020.
