Tally's take
The character
London brews at both ends of the scale and almost nothing in between. Fuller's has been at Chiswick since 1845 and is now owned by Asahi; Camden went to AB InBev; Beavertown to Heineken. What's left independent clusters under the railway arches of Bermondsey, where a handful of small breweries turned a line of viaducts into a Saturday institution. The city that invented porter spent the 20th century losing its breweries and the 21st buying them back, at which point somebody bought those too.

Counts here are the length of this list, not an estimate. For why a brewery you know might be missing — closures, shared roofs, contract brands, ownership exclusions — see how we count.
