Great Western Malting
Washington, USA
The oldest malting company on the US west coast, opened the year after Prohibition ended.

Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP)
Non-profit founded in 1985 that certifies beer judges and publishes the style guidelines used by homebrew and commercial competitions worldwide. Judges advance through ranks — Recognized, Certified, National, Master — on a combination of examination scores and points earned judging at sanctioned competitions. Its style guidelines are the framework most modern style classification descends from, including much of the vocabulary used across this archive.
Tally's TakeA volunteer organisation that quietly ended up defining what a beer style is. Worth remembering that these categories were written down by people, at a particular time, and are revised — a style guideline is a description, not a law of nature.

Four ascending levels from Certified Beer Server to Master Cicerone, the last held by only a small number of people worldwide. The name is a registered trademark.
Tally's TakeIt exists because beer arriving at a customer in poor condition is usually the bar's fault rather than the brewery's — a whole profession built on the gap between what was brewed and what gets poured.

Craft Beer & Brewing
American magazine and video publisher covering brewing technique for both homebrewers and commercial brewers, with clone recipes worked out with the breweries that own the originals, single-ingredient deep dives and a long-running interview podcast. Also publishes a separate business title for the trade.

Its print edition ceased and the title changed hands in the late 2010s; it has continued online under new ownership, and its back catalogue is a significant record of American brewing from the 1980s onward.
